Some of the guys at a boys home in Helwan, on the south end of Cairo. There are about 70 guys living in the home run by a local church. Don't think "Little Orphan Annie" -- these guys are a BLAST!!!
One of the guys from the boys home. Notice the football (a.k.a. soccer) jersey sponsored by Tim Horton's. Look close and you'll notice it's for a soccer team in Whitby, about 20 minutes from my family's home around Toronto.
Did I mention they're a BLAST?!?!
Khan el-Khalili. A big, famous market in Cairo.
Some boys who live in "Garbage City" in Cairo. I seriously debated whether taking pictures here was making a spectacle of people who live in what is, in effect Cairo's city dump. Thankfully, one of the guys wanted to try my camera and started shooting. I share these not to cause pity or guilt, but to share an area that's home for many people that have an incredible joy and ability to make you feel welcome.
Very different living situations...
But very fun guys!
Some of my students from the Adult English Learning Center in Cairo. Most of whom are refugees from Sudan. I'd never really met any "refugees" before. That term carries a lot of baggage, and often makes me think of people brushed to the fringes of society. They've lost their homes, often times can't get work in the new land they've been placed and are often not respected. And they're fantastic!
Some more of the students. A great group. I'm the pasty one in the back.

Great pictures Noel! I can't wait to hear the stories that go along with them!!
much love, and see you soon!
It's so great to read about the people you've met on your travels. As I prepare to go to Uganda, this shot of you as the 'pastiest' person in the picture, makes me think of what my pictures will look like! I hope to see you at some point this summer!
