The Lion, the Witch, and the Jetliner

I feel that a dear friend of mine Ben summarized what it's like to travel between cultures quite well. It is at times much like going to Narnia.

Christine finally tasted the analogy: "I got it! This is like coming into Narnia" she exclaimed on the first day back into our African abode, "wherewe have the same names but we live completely different lives as from theWest." She then looked at me and smiled, "except the world of snow is on theother side."

And now, four weeks and a soul epoch later, we have stepped back into theKingdoms of the Global West, not through C.S. Lewis' robe closet next to theilluminated lampposts but by the winged cigar-like vessel called Air France. And our re-entry dilemma is as real as for Peter, Edmond, Lucy and Susan:how do we explain to you how vastly different the world is from which wecame, especially when we now sport the same clothes as before, talk English as if we never left, and navigate the digital world like faithful clients ofthe consumer world? Did we really leave? Ask our inner hearts.

One of my Honduran co-workers is even British and has a brother named Peter even further sealing the deal!
