This year has definitely proven to be a stretching time and I'm only four months into my time in Honduras. There are many new areas that I'm being challenged in during my time. Here is my current list of things that I'm working on while in Honduras.
1) Striving to know Our God, the Ruler of the Universe more. I continue to grapple with what it means for God to be the number one priority in my life and how to begin to allow Him to work that out through me.
2) Trying to figure out how to engage the minds of the youth of Honduras. Teaching 12 year-olds may honestly be one of the most challenging things I've done in my adult life. I am trying to figure out how to engage their minds... but am stuck trying to get them stop talking about boys and High School Musical 2.
3) Learning to speak Spanish. I actually quite enjoy the challenge of learning a new language. Some days I really get it and can have good conversations with people and others I can't understand a single word that hits my ears.
4) Learning to play football (a.k.a. soccer). Playing football with Hondurans is humbling since they've been playing since they were 4 years old... and I officially retired at the age of seven. If I keep this up I may just be in the best shape of my life.
5) Learn to play the guitar. Something I've thought about for some time. Still thinking more than acting, but it's the thought that counts, right?
6) Read. In a perfect world I will read Dostoevsky's The Brother's Karamazov before the year is out.
7) Visit this corner of the world. I will visit at least one new country (Nicaragua). With the relative proximity of Central American countries the possibility of visiting others is quite promising.
8) Get into grad school. I'm applying to a handful of grad programs for next year. I hope to have a bit of selection of where I will be heading next year.
