Lessons learned on a bus trip from Nairobi, Kenya to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania:
10) "12 hours" really means 16 hours
9) You can make friends even when you're smelly and gross from sitting on a bus all day
8) "So this is what the iPod Video is made for." There's always next time!
7) Get ready for speed bumps... lots of them!
6) Both Tanzania and Kenya are beautiful countries and have a gorgeous variety of landscape!
5)Keep well hydrated. Just not too hydrated as your bathroom stops will depend entirely on the bladder of the bus driver. The man's a camel!
4) Being the only non-East African resident on the bus when you cross the border into Tanzania means you need to wait in the really long line to get your visa slowing everyone else down. Not necessarily the best method for making friends.
3) As fun as the trip may be, it's really great to see your friends at the end
2)ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS B.Y.O.T.P!!!!! Thank goodness for magazines!
1) Keep your head up! I was heavily immersed in reading a magazine when realized I was completely missing out on gorgeous landscape, vibrant villages and life in Africa passing by my window. Kinda like life!

hahaha I can understand perfectly well. Although my bus trip was half the time of yours (8 hrs) and through the countryside of Nicaragua. grins
Yes, BYOTP is definitely one of the best items of travel advice one can ever receive!!!! :)
In my travels, even the OFFICIAL rest stops, where there are actual enclosed bathrooms with walls and stalls and running water, they will still not have TP...I guess they think people will steal it! (or else, people actually DO steal it...a distinct probabibility!)
I'm jealous that you are even ABLE to read a magazine in a moving vehicle in order to miss the scenery. I always watch the scenery, 'cause if I tried to read I would lose my lunch...
Hey, give Paul & Kat a BIG HUG for me!
