At The Centre of it all

For three weeks I'm teaching English with a program in Chiang Mai, Thailand called The Centre (yes there will be a bunch of Thai students running around with a cross-bred Canadian-American accent).

And... so far? It's been terrific!

The program is ideally positioned to have a terrific impact on the next generation of leaders here in Thailand. Students are invited to attend Bible studies or other activities to learn more about Christianity.

The program is geared towards university students, but in my two classes I have one graduate student and three recent grads. They all have a fairly strong handle on the English language so we're able to have conversations and work on fine-tuning their skills (much easier for me than starting from scratch!). It's been fantastic to develop relationships with young adults in Thai, not that far in age from myself. I've loved the chance to get to know they and find out what life is like for them. Today for instance I went for dinner and then to coffee shop with my two guy students. There's been offers of going to waterfalls, trekking around the city and going to movies. They've all been incredibly accepting in a very short time! Even though it's been just a few weeks, I feel as if I'm going to miss them!

Other involvements apart from The Centre include working with OMF. Today I was at their offices and I hope to see about helping them sort out of their operations with the garments they are selling made by women in Laos. Anyone want to buy anything silk?
