Some thoughts on travel based on questions asked by KLS that might give you some insights into my time here:
1) what do you like best about the philippines?
There are somethings that apply to many locations, but for the Philippines specifically: the people are very friendly and at this point in my travels, it's definitely nice to be in a place where people mostly speak English.
2) what do you dislike the most?
I wasn't that impressed with the big city and malls of Manila. I think I'd love trekking around various islands in the Philippines, but I don't think I'll get that chance. I want to get to the exotic, beautiful beaches of the "Pacific Rim" I've pictured in my mind courtesy of National Geographic... maybe on the next trip.
3) who do you find yourself missing more than you expected?
Probably my sister. I think some days I just miss good friends who really know me.
4) how does asia in reality compare to what you might have expected before you left?
(Don't take this the wrong way...) It's much more "normal" than I expected. I had pictured it as very foreign in my mind. And there are many foreign aspects to it, but in general, it's not that incredibly different! People are still people. Life is still life. And discovering that is one of the greatest treasures found in traveling.
5) what is the best part of traveling?
(Similar to above) Reducing some of the foreign ideas of a place and letting it become a "real" place. Like when I saw Mission Impossible III the other day and they went to Shanghai, before it would have been "some foreign city on the other side of the world." Now it's a city I haven't been to, but in a part of the world I have been to, in a country I have been to, and I can imagine pretty well what it may be like.
6) what is your favourite food from traveling so far?
Actually, I LOVE the fresh mango and pineapple... and durian... so scrumptious (no, not really!). I think I especially liked Thai food... they just have to make a wussier, not-so-spicy version for me, though! :-D

I'm not big on spicey food either. I would have to get the "wuss" version hehehe...
