To Israel and Back Again

Last week my dad and I connected with a group of Houghton College students (with some eager parents in tow) and visited many sites around Israel (pictures to follow soon).

I learned lots.

Lots about the historic aspects of Jesus' life and also a bit about current life in Israel/Palestine (after being there my perceptions of the conflict in that region have changed... feel free to ask me about it some time).

No major spiritual epiphanies, though it was terrific to have a historical context to place the life and work of Jesus Christ into. More ruins and old churches places where events may have taken place than any major fuzzy feelings when I saw the Jordan river. Still, it was pretty fantastic to begin to understand in a different way the stories I read in the Bible.

Now I know how big the Sea of Galilee is, how far the trek from Nazareth to Bethlehem was and how small the Jordan river is (though I hope for John and Jesus' sake it was cleaner back then).

Now back to Egypt for one last week of travels with my dad! Let the good times roll!

Glad you could have such an experience! Not sure when I'll make it to the Promised Land, but one day maybe a university will pay for me to take the trip :-).

ACTUALLY... I had to pay for that one, and this current leg of my excursions out of my own meager pocket. I know! That's just not fair!!
