What's in a name?

It has been very neat to discover the definite legacy that my last name carries. I've been a part of conversations where people will talk about a "Habashy" without knowing that I am one. I've met odd people and discover that we may just be related. I even met an Egyptian professor who when I told him my last name he remarked, "Habashy... that's a good Coptic [meaning Christian in Egypt] name from Upper Egypt."

So family, know you've got a great heritage here in Egypt!

That is very cool indeed... it's exciting and at times a bit humbling to know where you've come from. I just found out something more about my own roots over this past Easter weekend. I've known I've been related to an Iroquois woman (a great... grandmother way back), but my mom filled me in on a whole lot more that I'd never known about. Like her name. :) Naomi Root. She was my great grandmother's great grandmother. She was married to one of my Scottish antecedents by common-law marriage, a Scottish custom of the joining of hands, when pioneers were first settling the land in the Canisteo/Hornell area. It's kind of neat... imagining what she might have been like.
There's something in knowing where you've come from... and maybe a bit of the struggles and joys your forefathers and mothers went through... that someone added up to you existing. grins Blessings, Noel. I'm truly excited for you!

amendment: that would be SOMEHOW added up... NOT someone. :)
